Should I look abroad?

Russia, China, parts of Africa, and Eastern Europe are all options.  Has anyone done any research, of better yet a story you can share?

What Others are Saying

A friend of mine adopted

A friend of mine adopted twins from Bulgaria. She said the process was slightly difficult at times, but totally worth it. I think Eastern Europe is a great place to adopt from. It is really surprising how many orphans there are in those countries who need good homes. Sadly enough, with increasing drug and alcohol addiction in some parts of Eastern Europe including Russia, there are increasing numbers of parents who cannot properly take care of their children.

I knew many couples adopted

I knew many couples adopted from China too. Good luck!

My sister is in the process

My sister is in the process of adopting an Albanian child. She and her husband decided to look into international adoption because, among other reasons, they heard so many stories about people going through the process of adopting an American child and then having the birth parent change their mind about giving the child up. In the case of international adoption, the child must be an orphan (legally defined) in order to be adopted, so there is little to no chance that the adoption won't go through once you've been approved. Also, they're going to have to go to Albania to get their child, so for them, that's an added bonus. They love to travel and learn about new cultures, so this will be a great way for them to see first hand where their baby is coming from. www.international.adoption.com is a great site that lists the pros and cons of international adoption, and it provides a lot of other useful information as well.

International adoption is

International adoption is often faster and more affordable as well. We researched both domestic and international. I think both are very viable options.

I think that's a great idea.

I think that's a great idea. Wonderful resource. Try it in bold.
